What were you doing before signing up for our course?

I was working as a professional tennis player in the US before I moved here. I’d been working in the industry for just under 12 years, playing, working and coaching.

Why did it seem like the right moment in your life to sign up for the course?

My wife received a job offer here in Barcelona and so we moved here. I had already decided I wanted to change careers and had started teaching myself to code at home. Once we made the move, I decided that I wanted to actually go for it and train as a web developer and make a career of it. So, I started looking for coding bootcamps in Barcelona.

What was your main concern before starting?

To be honest, I didn’t really have many concerns before starting. I knew I wanted to learn to code and to learn Java and saw that Ubiqum is the only coding bootcamp that offers courses in Java, so for me it made sense to spend five months becoming a full stack developer.

Why did Ubiqum Code Academy stand out as the best option?

When I came to visit the offices for the first time, Ubiqum had just moved to WeWork and I had a really good first impression. As I mentioned before, I wanted to learn Java specifically and I also wanted to go to the longest course available on the market since I was new to the industry. Ubiqum ticked all the boxes, so it made sense to come here.

What were your expectations/what were you hoping to get out of it?

My main expectations were to learn a lot and get a job at the end of it, which is what has happened!

Do you think our Learn by Doing methodology has been effective?

I liked it because it reflected a real world experience rather than traditional schooling methods. It was difficult at times because you have to figure things out for yourself, but the mentors are really helpful, so whenever I faced a problem they were great.

How helpful did you find Ubiqum’s career services?

We had some sessions with the career services team for two days where we worked on our resume, LinkedIn profile and had a hiring day where companies came in and gave presentations. I thought the insight they gave us was really helpful and I’m happy with the service.

Would you recommend Ubiqum, and if so, why?

Yes, I would recommend Ubiqum! The atmosphere here is great for learning and everyone is in the same boat as you, trying to change careers. The mentors are great people and very knowledgeable and everyone is trying to help each other out.
