Check out how Xavier went from Graphic Design to Website Design in 5 months
If you are a proactive person who likes to develop things and you have the motivation to improve yourself, Ubiqum is a very good learning platform.Xavier Mendez Garcia
What were you doing before Ubiqum?
I was unemployed, but I was thinking about what I should focus on in my career. I had done marketing before and I knew a bit of HTML and CSS but I was looking to advance my career.
What motivated you to start learning how to code?
Why did you decide to sign up for Ubiqum?
It seemed a good way to kick-start a career.
What did you find difficult during the course?
Hmm, I wouldn’t say I found the course difficult, it was simply some tasks took more time, particularly all the stuff around APIs and server calls. It is time consuming, but the more you put in, the more you achieve.
For who would you recommend Ubiqum?
If you are a proactive person who likes to develop things and you have the motivation to improve yourself, Ubiqum is a very good learning platform. In my case, I was able to accelerate the progress on my personal projects. You shouldn’t limit yourself to the course tasks alone.
What are your plans when you finish the bootcamp?
I would like to work for one year to get more experience, to try out other areas of programming and then get into a startup eventually to become a senior developer.
Have you gotten a job interview?
Well, the interest actually came after having the career session, upon which I focused on adjusting my LinkedIn profile and presenting a portfolio of my projects, I received three offers: One from Doméstika - a designers platform, a real estate agency and Lateral View, a start-up to work for UX-UI. I’ve since accepted an offer at GFT IT Consulting.
What advice do you have for someone who’s thinking about changing their career?
First, do something you like to do. The good thing with programming is that you can build something, see immediately what you’ve created and test it and see if it works. It’s very gratifying.
Did you have any doubts before starting Ubiqum? How do you feel about it now?
No doubts, but I didn’t know much about the methodology before starting. In the end it was a good fit for me.
Describe your experience at Ubiqum.
It’s a bit like all my previous design experiences but now I have a way more valuable skill set. It’s cool that there are loads of different profiles at Ubiqum and you see their progression and how programming boosts what they already know.
